Race Review: Civilian Military Combine PA Mountain Assault (Poconos 2014)
The CMC, a hybrid challenge consisting of a 5 minute AMRAP workout coupled with a 5.2 mile trail run including over 25 military-inspired obstacles. This challenge breaks down into two parts. Part 1 is a 5 minute AMRAP starting in The Pit, and Part 2 is a 5.2 mile trail run with obstacles.
The location of the PA, CMC was at Camelback Ski Resort / Waterpark. The base elevation is 1,250 climbing to 2,133 at the peak. The terrain is mountainous, muddy and lots of creeks, which means water, to get you wet. The temperature on race day was a balmy 62 degrees and sunny.
AMAZING RACE: Your comfort zone is a nice, cozy place to...
There was running and rope climbing and endless acres of mud. Three things I’m not exactly crazy about.
I hate running, and there was over three miles of it. I hadn’t climbed a rope since grade school, and even back then I sucked at it. The mud? It was stuck to my skin, my clothes and my shoes, adding what felt like an extra 20 pounds to my frame.
This is a Reebok Spartan Race, where they get you out of your comfort zone and keep you there for a while. On March 22 in Charlotte, I was out of mine for exactly one hour and 15 minutes, and this was just one of their shorter “Sprints.”
Race Recap: Spartan Colorado Military Sprint
Well it did not seem as though I was going to be able to make it to the CO Military Spartan Sprint this year due to finances. I received an email with a pretty amazing price for a flight. I had a a voucher, and discount and so I was able to book my flight to Denver for $17. Found a rental car for $10 a day and thanks to two amazing friends, Taryn Haas and Leslie St.Louis, I had places to stay. Seemed as tho everything had fallen into place......or had it?
Unstoppable Amelia Boone Has Triumphed Over Tough Mudder and Succeeded in...
Few things can slow down Amelia Boone. This much we know after the dozen-plus obstacle races she’s competed in since 2011. That year, the 24-hour World’s Toughest Mudder in New Jersey tried — and failed — to stop her. Instead, Boone covered 90 miles and hundreds of obstacles to place second among women and fifth overall. In 2012 she came back stronger, winning the WTM female division and placing second overall.
Race Recap: ABF Mud Run… Crack For Obstacle Junkies
OCRs have evolved so rapidly that elite athletes like myself, in the industry are now searching beyond a now corporate involved business and looking elsewhere for races that still hold onto or maintain the true identity of obstacle course racing at it’s finest. Chad Mason, founder of ABF, race director and one of the designers still holds onto the vision of what a true OCR should be.
