STFU: The acronym dividing Spartan Race’s dueling identity

If Internet chatter is any indication of reality, Spartan Race's "identity crisis" has finally trickled down to the participants themselves. The race's popular acronym, STFU (Spartan The F*%# Up), has become the verbal equivalent of a sword, splitting Spartan racers into two distinct camps and revealing differing philosophies of what obstacle racing is and should be.

America’s BIGGEST Problem

Personally I think diet is the average American's biggest problem, but this TEDx talk by Dr. Kirk Parsley, who in addition to being a doctor is a former Navy SEAL, brings up a valid and rather unthought of concern - our sleep deficit and more importantly it's significant toll on our health. As a community of endurance athletes we can immensely improve our health just by getting past the cultural thinking that we aren't tough or are not putting in enough effort in each day if we actually sleep eight hours each night.

Andrew Wible 17 yrs. old from Long Valley, NJ finished back to back both the Vermont Spartan Race World Championship Beast on 9/20/14 and the Ultra Beast ultra distance obstacle race in Vermont on 9/21/14. The next day he went to school and was dismissed from the track team for doing a Spartan Race.
