I had the opportunity to chat with one of the founders of the Spartan Race Series Selica Sevigny who came up with the idea after attempting the Death Race in Vermont a few years back. She managed 17 hours of gruelling challenges and felt “a profound transformation” during her experience. She “conquered so many fears and unresolved doubts and realized that limitations were mostly of the mind”. That was the beginning of a whole new concept and framework on how obstacle races would be managed, marketed, organized and planned. This framework has been franchised and utilized in Canada and USA and more recently in the UK.

There is a new guy in town and if you have not heard the buzz already then it’s time you listen and feed your craving. Give BattleFrog a chance, for, in my professional OCR opinion, there is absolutely no risk involved because this race is Grade A. Inspired by Navy Seal training, designed by Seals and run by Seals, BattleFrog will provide just the bang you need and for less cost than most other races, often finding registration costs for 50% off, scoring an elite entry for as low as $50 or even a Bullfrog entry for $30. It’s also chock filled with legit obstacles that will test how much true grit you have.

This past April I decided to give ABF Mud Run a go on the recommendation of a few friends, and I was not disappointed. After the race I hung out and talked with race director Chad Mason. We were talking about all things obstacle racing and what was good about the race, and where improvements could be made. I could tell that Chad was interested in what I was saying and was taking in my thoughts. So I looked forward to the next ABF race to see what would happen.
