Spartan Invites Competitors to “Run for a Reason” and Help CAF

Support the Physically Challenged

BOSTON, MA (April 17, 2014) – Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), the world leader in helping individuals with physical challenges get involved – and stay involved – in sports, and Spartan Race, Inc., the world’s leading obstacle racing company, announced today that CAF will be the official Charity Partner of the 2014 U.S. Reebok Spartan Race.

CAF provides opportunities and support to people with physical disabilities so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. Adult and children recipients of CAF’s support are faced with challenges of all types such as disease, tragic accidents, and injury in the line of duty, including wounded warriors and first responders. Recently, a record number of CAF-supported athletes qualified to compete in the past 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games. In fact, more than 50 percent of Team USA was supported by the group.

“When you meet a CAF athlete, you can’t help but feel their determination to face adversity with pride and a smile …. this is inspiring beyond belief,” said Joe De Sena, Founder and CEO of Spartan Race. “We see challenged athletes on our course more and more – we are not only honored to assist in raising funds for CAF but also happy to have a partner that shares in our philosophythat involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.”

“We are excited to be named the official Charity Partner of the 2014 U.S. Reebok Spartan Race,” said Virginia Tinley, Executive Director of CAF. “An obstacle course race designed to test resilience, strength, stamina and the ability to thrive in the face of adversity, is perfectly aligned with what our challenged athletes do on a daily basis.”

Spartan Race will raise funds for CAF through a variety of channels including registration pages, event activations and media/marketing campaigns.  The ultimate goal is to raise awareness and funding necessary to continue CAF’s important mission. CAF will coordinate grant presentations at select Spartan Race events and provide athletes to participate in Spartan Race events.
