First Impression: When communication started about this review, I was given some info on the company and was very impressed.  They get their guranana from Brazil and give 10% of the profits go to The Atlantic Rainforest Institute.

This is NOT an energy drink.  It is an energy shot.

Background Information:  I generally try to stay away from energy drinks/shots.  I don’t like consuming that much sugar and I really don’t know the long term effects of many of the ingredients.  I eat as much organic, non-GMO, non-processed food as possible.  If this were the typical energy drink, I would have passed on doing a review.

The 2 samples used were provided by Sudden Rush Guarana. The samples were used on two separate occasions.

Testing:

The card that came with the sample said to take 10 minutes before physical activity.  It can be taken straight or it mixed with water/drink.  I took it straight.  It has a very strong coffee-type of taste to it.  Not the best taste, but I don’t drink coffee.

The first sample was used before a very challenging run.  It was only an 11 mile run, but it was during the day, in August, and I live in Las Vegas, NV.  The temperature was 105-110° (first problem).  I took the shot and started running 20 minutes later (I got sidetracked).  I definitely felt the shot about 5 minutes before I left.  I had not eaten much for breakfast (second problem), but had consumed about a liter of water.  It ended up being one of the toughest runs I had done in a while.  The sun took just about everything out of me.  I had to stop a few times (it’s not good when you get goosebumps).  So, I can say that I did notice the shot, but I was also asking a whole lot from it on this day.  I was completely drained.

After the first sample, I decided that I should try it on a much easier day so that I can feel the effects more.  I took it before doing some work around the house, food shopping, and going to work.  This reaction was much more effective than the first.  I did feel more energized during the day.  Not so much that I felt stronger, just more alert.  Honestly, it is hard to say how long it lasts for.  I got a solid 3 hours out of it, but there is no crash, so it’s difficult to say when it stops working.  About 10 hours after taking the second shot, I went for a 5 mile run and circuit workout.  I felt great!  I don’t know or expect that it was still the Guarana, because it states that it lasts for 4-6 hours, but felt the need to include it.

Feedback:  I am not sure what the price of shots are. I am going to take a shot in the dark and say that I would expect to see them sell for around $2.50-$4 each.   If you rely on energy supplements, or would like an extra boost every now and then, try Sudden Rush Guarana.  I would recommend Sudden Rush over the sugar energy drinks any day.
