Race Review: MudManX Holmdel, NJ 7/19/14
Having run several MudManX races in the past, I was excited to see what they had in store for 2014. Holding this event at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ I was curious to see how they would incorporate the surrounding area into a mud run. Arriving at the venue I was pleased to see that this small local event attracted some of the areas top OCR racers such as Kevin Donohue, Roman Pinto, Stephen “Bowtie” Crawford, Kevin LaPlatney, Ron Zastocki, Dustin Bechtel, and James Grbac. Bib pick up was a breeze and we had more than enough time to make our way over to the starting corral.

Event Review: BattleFrog – Greater DC
In Brief: If you read nothing else, read the following: this was one of the best OCRs I have done to date. Battlefrog is a well-organized OCR with all the elements you would hope for. Below I grade each of these elements and provide a few brief thoughts.
One of the best that I have done and well worth the money, which goes to the Navy Seal Foundation and Museum. Thought and care went into this event, and it clearly showed. A few, very minor, criticisms, but nothing that would make me hesitate for a second from doing this one again or recommending it. Solid A

OCR, a Fresh Start to Life
August 2011 I was approaching the age of 40 so I went into the doctors for a physical. I knew I put on a few pounds and was not the athlete I was in high school and college. When the doctor told me I was overweight, had high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and my childhood asthma was returning, I was hit right in the face. She started to pull out her pad to write me up a list of pills to start taking.
My immediate response was...."Whoaaaa..wait!!! If I start to diet and exercise, will that fix all of these issues". She replied yes, with a a look of "I've heard this BS line before". She told me to give that a try for 3 months and come back. So at that point it was using some online tools to track my food intake and exercise.

Event Review: Urban Raid (Boston)
For the second year, the RAID series held the Urban RAID, a 5k OCR, in Boston on July 12. The Boston event was one of five planned this year by the RAID series, based in Portland, Maine. A great OCR for beginners, the Urban RAID is also a good option for more advanced athletes looking to improve their mastery of standard obstacles.
