Ragnar Events

How It Works

Take everything that makes Ragnar special, mix in incredibly scenic dirt trails, bonfires, s’mores, and camping with your team.

Teams consist of 8 or 4 runners and will run a total of 120 miles. The race takes an average of 22 hours to complete. Teams will begin in staggered start times between 10 am and 7 pm on the Friday. You will run with your team through the night under a star-lit sky. Teams will finish on Saturday between 9 am and 4 pm. When you’re not running, you’ll be busy cheering on your teammates and soaking up the party atmosphere at Ragnar Village!

Ragnar Village is the heart and soul of the event. Each trail begins and ends in Ragnar Village. It is the Start Line, the Finish Line, and the exchange point. After each loop you will return to the support of your teammates and the adulation of the teams around you. Ragnar Village will be complete with:

  • Bonfire
  • S’mores
  • Music
  • Movies
  • Food & Snacks (Friday night pasta dinner included for each runner)
  • Billions of Stars

Team Staging Area

Each team will be given a location to set up their team campsite in the Ragnar Village. Camping will be located in the plush grass of the Soccer and Softball fields at the Town of Snowmass Village Recreation Center. Awards will be given for the best decorated team campsite and almost anything goes: tents, canopies, couches, camping chairs, BBQ’s, kiddie pools full of Kool-Aid, whatever.

We don’t assign specific campsites but we do ask that your team takes up less than 300sq-ft.

Race check-in opens on Friday morning. Camping in the Ragnar Village is FREE to runners/family/friends/crew on Friday night. Teams will be allowed into the venue on Friday morning at 8:00 am.

NOTE: No teams will be allowed into the venue before 8:00 am on Friday morning. Note there is no Saturday night camping and everyone must be out of the venue by 8:00 pm on Saturday night.

We ask that all runners camp in the Ragnar Village on Friday night. If you are looking for accommodations in Snowmass for Thursday night before the race or Saturday night after the race, there are options found on our Travel page.

Also, if you are traveling to Ragnar Trail Snowmass from outside the area and wish to rent camping gear for the event, we would suggest you contact the REI Denver store found here: http://www.rei.com/stores/denver.html. Note that rentals cannot be made more than one month out so please plan accordingly.

No dogs on the course. No dogs in the campsite. No dogs at the event. We love dogs too but this is a safety issue for participants and for the dogs.

Please see the Trail Guide for a list of other things that are and aren’t allowed in the campsite.

Coexisting with Wildlife

Please help the Town of Snowmass Village foster a community culture of safety and mutual respect by adhering to the following rules:

1.  Don’t feed the bears: Please lock your cars, place unattended coolers in a locked car or truck, keep the ground clean of food and drink, and leave no food products inside of your tent.  There will be a storage trailer at Ragnar Village for food and coolers if you wish to store them.

2.  Cross the line, pay a fine: Seasonal trail closures for elk calving are in effect on several Snowmass Village trails until June 21st, some of which are near (but not directly on) the Ragnar Trail Route. Please respect all trail closure gates and signs.

If you have any questions about wildlife in Snowmass Village, please contact the Animal Services Division at (970) 923-5330.
